Wigston Phoenix is a warm, welcoming running club based in Wigston, Oadby, and the surrounding areas of South‑West Leicestershire. Whether you're out for your first jog or chasing PBs in local races, you’ll find a place here. We pride ourselves on being a social hub for runners of all ages and abilities—no pace, distance, or experience level is too big or small.
We meet every Tuesday evening at The Wigston Liberal Club (Bull Head Street)—from 6:45 pm for a 7 pm start. During the summer months, we head off-road across Wigston’s scenic trails; in winter, we revert to road routes. Evening runs range from 4 to 10 miles, and groups are available to suit different paces—you’re never stuck running alone.
There’s also informal Thursday training at local parks such as Vicky Park, Brocks Hill, and Knighton Park. These are ideal for speed sessions, trail runs, or just mixing up your routine.
Competing is never compulsory, but many members enjoy participating in local leagues like the Leicestershire Road Running League and Derby Runner Cross Country League—both in team events and individual races. The club supports runners in everything from road races to cross country and fell events across the region and further afield.
We also host fun events like our own parkrun Tour, which saw 56 members running or volunteering at six venues in 2025, and club-wide handicap races, social outings to scenic trails, and an annual Awards Evening to celebrate everyone’s achievements.
Wigston Phoenix originated in 2008 as a split from the former OWLS AC, evolving into its own distinct running community in Wigston while the Leicester branch continued under the OWLS name. Our goal has always been simple: to provide an inclusive and supportive environment where runners of all levels can enjoy the sport, push their limits if they wish, and build strong community connections through running.
